The Museum is situated in Reading town in the county of Berkshire in UK. It has a wide collection of antiques that belong to Greek era. It is located on the University of Reading’s Whiteknights campus which is about 3.2 km away from the centre of the town. The Museum has various collections of Greco Roman Civilization and Greek Civilization that was in the Mediterranean with the most important Etruscan and Greek terracottas and ceramics. There are other exhibits that have metal and stone artifacts of Roman and Greek dates and Prehistoric pottery. There is also a wide collection of Egyptian antiquities that ranges from pre dynastic to the Roman period. The collection includes bronze and copper artifacts, jewellery, musical instruments and even a mummified cats head.
The Museum was made in 1922 by the first Professor at the University Percy Ure, although it had connections that were donated before of Egyptian antiquities that were made by Hilda Petrie in 1909 to the Reading University College that existed in that period. Over time the collection grew with the charity and donations of different donors and soon was recognized as the fourth large collection of Greek ceramics that is present in Britain. The Museum got its name after professor Ure and his wife Dr Annie Ure who was the Museum’s first curator. Now the curator of the Museum is Professor Amy C. Smith who is the Professor of Classical Archaeology at the Reading University.
